Being a church lover, the idea of visiting church always excited me and that’s how I made my plan to visit ‘the city of joy’. Yeah you guys are right it is Paris. Paris has one of the most of iconic landmarks along with historical monuments.

It is the pure air you get to breathe in the church. The hymns that float in church make you also swing with the choir. It feels as if the heart has land in Garden of Eden where everything is just very beautiful. It is the place where you feel that some one has heard all the unsaid words you wanted to say. An empty heart is always on the peaceful side.

Notre Dome De ParisNo doubt when you go to Paris there are ample of attraction to visit but I guess no one should miss out their visit to Notre Dome De Paris. But the souls of Paris call it as ‘Our lady of Paris’ in French and is also known as Notre Dome Cathedral. It is one of the most famous gothic structures. It is a Roman Catholic Cathedral situated at the eastern half of Île de la Cité. Notre Da Paris is widely considered as one of the finest exemplar of French Gothic Architecture and also was one of the first Gothic cathedrals.

During 1790’s the cathedral suffered vandalism due to the fundamental phase of the French Revolution. A lot of religious images were destroyed. It was the 19th century when an extensive restoration project was completed, returning the cathedral to its previous state. The cathedral has been reconstructed for ten times. It was even demolished by the bishop Maurice De Sully and then again resumed.

My visit to Notre Da Paris left me somewhere in middle o universe. It is the smell of traditional alters that makes your visit rich.

Your first step in the church will make your heart swift. The stained glass and sculptures adds to the natural ambience of the church. Notre Dame de Paris was amongst the foremost buildings in the world to use the flying buttress which are arched exterior supports. Well surprisingly the building was not formerly designed to include the flying buttresses around the choir and nave. The church has most beautiful paintings and sculptures which has enhanced its beauty.

Notre Dame is open to the civic from early rise to late in sunset late. The gold paint and marble in the church that have aged dappled luster to them, slightly colored by years of candle smoke and loving worship. It’s wonderful to feel it being in use though churches empty of prayer are strange, cold places, but even on a November evening Notre Dame is warm and rosy inside, and as soft as snow.

There are five bells at Notre Dame-  The great bourdon bell, Emmanuel, is located in the South Tower, which weighs over 13 tons, and is tolled to mark the hours of the day and for various occasions and services. There are four additional bells on wheels in the North Tower, which are sway chimed. There was a time when this bells where rung manually but now with the invention of electric motors they rung with their support.

The church is adorned with few masterpiece like :

The Descent of the Holy Spirit.

Jacques Blanchard

Saint Peter curing the sick with his shade.

Laurent de La Hyre.

The Conversion of Saint Paul.

- Laurent de LA HYRE

The Centurion Cornelius at Saint Peter’s Feet

-Aubin VOUET

Saint Peter’s Sermon in Jerusalem

- Charles POËRSON

The Crucifixion of Saint Peter

- Sébastien BOURDON

The Crucifixion of Saint Andrew

-Charles LEBRUN.

The Stoning of Saint Stephen

- Charles LEBRUN.

The Prophet Agabus Predicting Saint Paul’s Suffering in Jerusalem

- Louis CHÉRON.

Just after a cozy snowfall when the streets get beautifully cleared you can vision the twin towers which itself excites the heart beats. A small flame of candle actually lightens your heart and keeps the flame going in your heart.
