Remarkable Roatan

Most Roatan reefs feature a large, shallow terrace of lettuce coral, rounded by dramatic drop-offs commencing in 15-20 feet of water. This is in sharp contrast to other Caribbean locations. Snorkeling is hugely popular due to the corals, sponges, sea fans, and gorgonians.
A wide variety of fish thrive amongst the coral. Some of the popular species of fish include grunts, lizardfish, flounders, 
scrawled filefish, and red-lipped blennies. In case of jawfish, the male broods the eggs in the mouth. Indigo hamlets mate between 5:00 and 5:30 every afternoon. The waters are also home to small rays and the harmless nurse shark.
Roatan is the largest of all the Bay Islands. They are located 35 miles off the northern coast of Honduras. The reefs are in a good condition while the waters remain crystal clear. Roatan is a slender ridge that stretches 40 miles east to west, and is four miles wide. This provides us access to the north or south shore. This throws up the opportunity for protected snorkeling, irrespective of wind direction. The lush reefs of Roatan throw some of the most wonderful opportunities in snorkeling.
Nearer to the shore, elkhorn and staghorn coral are separated by deep ridges of dense lettuce coral. These are further separated by narrow sand channels that are lined with purple sea fans and soft corals. This adds motion, color, and texture to the new vistas.
Snorkeling in these waters gives the impression of gliding above small mountain ranges with deep canyons. The spurs and grooves lead to small wall. Here, the coral formation drops vertically to nearly 80 feet.
The precipice can be seen at a depth of 15-20 feet. There are many opportunities to behold local iguanas and endemic birds. Visitors also stand a good chance for a close encounter with dolphins. With the help of a trainer you can hold a dolphin and even kiss it. These encounters allow you to appreciate the strength, agility, and intelligence of the dolphins.
Roatan is a tropical Caribbean island. It offers stunning views of the sea. It is famous for its lush vegetation and beautiful sunsets. It appears as if a mountain ridge rises from the sea.
Roatan is renowned the world over for its scuba diving. The reef that surrounds the island draws tropical fish and snorkelers. The diving attractions include sea walls and shipwrecks.
East of the French harbor is home to iguana farm that has served as a refuge for thousands of iguanas.
The climate at Roatan is mild with a favorable temperature for swimming. The stormy weather leads to rough seas, especially during the rainy season. This makes it unfavorable for swimming.

I’ve been to places for scuba diving but never heard of this place. This is strange!

Roatán is a superb cruise ship and scuba diving destination in Honduras. Tourism is its most important economic sector, though fishing is also an important source of income for islanders.
